The Vice Chancellor, Lagos State University, Professor ‘Lanre Fagbohun has confidently stated that the products of the University are well equipped with skills to withstand the rigours and challenges of the labour market. These, the Vice Chancellor said, are the Unique Selling Points (USP) of the graduates of the University as it holds the 22nd Convocation Ceremonies this month.
Professor Fagbohun made this remark at the Press Conference held to herald the 22nd Convocation Ceremonies on Monday, 7th May, 2018, at the 3-in-1 Auditorium, Faculty of Education, Main Campus Ojo, Lagos.
According to the Vice Chancellor, a total of Twenty-Six Thousand, Six Hundred and Thirty-Seven (26,637) students would be graduating and Twenty-Six (26) of them made the First Class Mark.
The Vice Chancellor insisted the assessment of students was thorough and well laid with quality assurance, hence, the meagre number of First Class graduands. Those graduating comprised Diplomas, First and Higher Degrees. The highlight of this year’s event is the Convocation Lecture, to be chaired by the Former President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Dr. (Chief) Olusegun Aremu Okikiola Obasanjo, GCFR.
The Vice Chancellor seized the opportunity to highlight some developments since the last Convocation which included the accreditation of the ODLRI by NUC, Academic Collaboration by Directorate of Sandwich with some Institutions to run Degree Programmes, signing of Memoranda of Understanding, collaboration with Foreign Institutions on exchanges programmes for staff and students, upgrade of facilities at LASUCOM and many others too numerous to mention.
The Vice Chancellor equally saluted some of the outstanding students of the University that excelled at foreign and local competitions, describing them as the true ambassadors of the University.
Finally, he thanked the Governor and Visitor to LASU, Mr. Ambode Akinwunmi, the Lagos State Executives, House of Assembly, all Stakeholders, Benefactors, Staff, Students, Parents and Guradians for their support too.
The Registrar, Mr. Lewis Oladapo Akinwunmi brought the Press Briefing to an end with the vote of thanks.
